The Story Behind Place In Photography
Hi, I'm Zoey.
I'm a photographer based in Edinburgh, Scotland, specialising in portraits, couples, graduations and travel photography.
In 2020, I moved from China to the UK as an international student, never expecting to build a life here.
While studying in the north of England, I spent much of my time travelling, exploring new places and collecting memories that would later inspire my photography.
Life had other plans.
After graduating, I explored different career paths, but none of them felt quite right. What I truly loved was travelling, meeting people, and experiencing the world beyond my comfort zone. Photography became a way of preserving those experiences and the emotions attached to them.
My connection with Edinburgh began during a trip in 2023.
Standing on Calton Hill at sunset, I fell in love with the city almost instantly. Its history, atmosphere and character felt unlike anywhere else I had been. Not long after, I began looking for opportunities here, and in 2024, I finally made Edinburgh my home.
Photography started as a personal passion, but it slowly became something more.
What began as a simple attempt to help travellers and students document their experiences turned into a career I genuinely love. I enjoy sharing the city I call home, discovering beautiful corners of Scotland, and capturing the connection between people and the places that shape their stories.
Today, Place in Photography is built around that idea: that every place holds a story, and every story deserves to be remembered.

Our sessions are entirely unposed and guided by the environment. We work exclusively with golden hour warmth, soft overcast skies, or directional window light. We find the quiet pauses that traditional studios erase.
